Hi Chris,

I think you'll find that even unreliable Road Runner is much better than
satellite. Besides the extreme annoyance of the low latency, satellite
Internet is much more affected by weather, and the speeds are much less
than cable. Talk to Tarus Balog (on the TriLUG list) if you want more
information on the DirectPC satellite service.

Also, the cheaper version of satellite Internet is downlink only, so you
have to use a phone line for the upload side of the connection (which is
therefore limited to 56K). Newer dishes allow for uplink to the
satellite, but I understand that's even more unreliable, due to the low
power of the backyard transmitter, and the long distance to the
satellite. Latency is even higher, too. Also, the
conspiracy-theorist-types think that the radiation emitted by the
transmitters can be harmful.
