Completely off the actual topic of the message (just trying to add to the weirdness factor of the list) -- this has always been my response to anyone who slams current music or fashion or books or architecture or whatever in favor of the "good ol' days".  The thing about the past is, we've all forgotten the 90% of the stuff back then that was just as cruddy as Britney Spears and 'NSync are today.  Classical music has had hundreds of years to weed out the chaff, hence the relative excellence.

I say, keep on producing that stuff!  The more stuff out there, the bigger the 10% is!

But most are mediocre. I think most will fade away through neglect. (The late SF writer Theodore Sturgeon said, "Sure 90 percent of SF is crud. 90 percent of everything is crud."  He didn't use the word "crud."
