Hey, anyone want to start a pool on the next natural disaster to
strike? Or maybe human-enhanced natural disaster. Here's a cool
article from the Post about Wexelblat Disasters. Nature has a nasty
sense of humor.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24688-2001Aug31.html

Excerpts:

"Last month, a storm that didn't even have a name caused the District of
Columbia to declare a broad disaster emergency for the first time in its
history. Why? Because the city mixes bacteria, viruses, pathogenic
organisms, toxic chemicals, pesticides, bioactive drugs, nutrients and
household and industrial wastes -- your basic content of any sewer
overflow, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council -- into

some of the same pipes as storm water."

"To Wexelblat, the disasters he has identified are simple, if
slow-motion. "You build a technological system, then overexploit natural
conditions, and Mother Nature takes revenge.""
