Community technology activities and ideas are popping up all over the
Triangle. Many local people involved in this work -- even those
operating in the same communities within the region -- don't yet know
each other.
You are invited to a gathering designed to share experiences, resources,
needs, plans, and a Triangle-wide perspective. It's for staff,
volunteers, champions, visionaries -- any and all engaged with or
thinking about starting digital divide efforts in the Triangle region.
That includes (but is not limited to) community tech/ learning centers,
after school programs, distance learning projects, telework centers,
computer recycling efforts, public access sites, volunteer trainers and
technical support providers, nonprofit support projects, e-democracy
projects, community tech projects focused on young people, seniors,
minorities,etc,
Date: Monday, July 23
Time: 10am - Noon
Place: W. D. Hill Recreation Center
1308 Fayetteville Street, Durham (See directions below)
Note: This center is one of Durham's City-wide Technology Enrichment
Program (CTEP) sites which has been cited as a national Community Tech
Center model.
Please RSVP to Ken Dietel (kdietel AT mindspring.com) if you plan to
attend. Also respond if you are interested in attending future meetings
but can't make this one. You are encouraged to send this notice to
anyone else you think would be inmtersted.
Agenda:
1. Knowledge-Exchange
Describe your community technology project or vision. What resources
do you have to share with others in the region? Wbat are the key items
on your wishlist? 2-minute reports max.
2. "Gems" from the CTCNet (Community Technology Center Network)
conference in San Diego
Attendees will describe the top 3 things they learned at the conference
3. Discussion of a America Connects Consortium regional meeting
for CTCs -- tentatively scheduled for the end of September in Durham.
4. It's "hot" in San Diego, Chicago, New York, Austin, Seattle and
other areas. What can a regional community technology alliance achieve
in the Triangle?
5. Tour / Discussion of CTEP Seniors program onsite
Post-session: attendees are encouraged to network amongst themselves.
