Good Afternoon Everyone -

Ladies:

The NC Women & Math Network is recruiting women who have careers in the
fields of mathematics, science, or technology for
The 2000-2001 Math Mentoring Program. The Program serves 8th grade
girls from public middle schools in Wake and Durham counties. It
receives funding from GE Capital Mortgage Corp, GlaxoWellcome Inc.,
Ericsson Inc. and Reichhold, Inc., and support from Meredith College and

NC Central University. Last year 170 students, and 76 mentors took part

in the Program’s seventh year.

GOAL OF THE PROGRAM: The program aims to encourage girls who have an
interest in mathematics to "stay on the math path." We link up small
groups of 2 to 3 eighth-grade girls with local female professionals who
work in mathematics-related fields. Through monthly interactions, the
girls learn about their mentor’s job, as well as many other math-related

careers.

TIME COMMITMENT: Mentors are expected to get together with their
students approximately ONCE a month from January-May. The time varies,
depending on the activity and the preferences of the mentor and her
students.

WAM is a great opportunity to network with some (more) awesome people!

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you would like more
information or would like to mentor.

Have a wonderful day!
