>To this end, I invite everyone who reads this to respond with your own
>InterNetWorkers story. What led you to sign on with us? Have you had
>any interesting experiences? Any memorable InterNetWorkers moments?
I joined up at the suggestion of a friend, who introduced it to me (if
memory serves), as a way to keep on top of the Triangle Internet 'scene', as
well as a way to make contacts. "Oh, and they drink lots of beer..." My
first meeting was Dec 99, at W.B. Yeats, and I ingratiated myself to
everyone there by blinding them with my digital camera.
The chief unintended benefit of having joined is that I have gotten over my
fear of Chapel Hill in general, and the vagaries of Franklin street in
particular. That's a good thing.
I've also enjoyed getting involved in the /dev and /plan side of things;
which is odd, for I never considered myself much of a 'doer' or a 'joiner'
before this. The group has a way of making you feel like you're part of a
clan (or is it a coven?). A nice sort of low-maintenance friendship
develops - glad to see you if you come out, but no pressure if you skip a
few meetings or just want to lurk. Plenty of fascinating conversations and
anecdotes, and a chance to dust off some of the old chestnuts.
Sorry to get all warm -n- fuzzy. I blame the weather.
