trans oo3 :: the third transmissions festival

July 14-15th 2ooo
at the cat's cradle
in chapel hill/carrboro, nc
transmissions site:: www.transmit.org

>>>>>>>>>
traverse.

>> For the third summer in a row, Chapel Hill
and Carrboro, NC will function as the home to
a series of entirely expansive phenomena known
as the Transmissions Festival. Transmissions
is a two-day event of improvised, experimental,
drone, electro-acoustic, minimal and electronic
sound performances that intersect with other
visual and audio offerings. trans oo3 will occur
July 14-15, 2ooo with events such as film/video
screenings and installations, and performances
at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC.

trans oo2 involved over twenty films, including
work by Scott Stark and Lawrence Brose, and
eighteen performances. The festival was
highlighted by pieces such as Phil Kline's
intensely engaging exploration with boomboxes;
this spatially dynamic interaction involved the
distribution of around 25 boomboxes playing a
series of Kline's tapes, which audience members
circulated within, around, and outside of the
performance space with, running headlong into
a large and curious crowd exiting from the
neighboring venue. The rest of the weekend
also featured an outstanding performance by
Portuguese sound artist and engineer Rafael
Toral, a vastly sense-shifting experience by
German composer, bernhard günter, the live
violin sampling endeavors of Kaffe Matthews[UK],
the poignant murmurings of New York guitarist
Loren MazzaCane Connors, and finished off with
a languorous set of mind-bending drone by Pelt.

This year's festival is once again striving to
exhibit microsound, repetition, noise and
minutia, and to open up the possibilities for
temporal and spatial traverses - - at peripheries
even beyond its previous incarnations. trans oo3
will feature performances by Fennesz, Pita, John
Fahey, Alan Licht, Hazard, Lucky Kitchen,
Stilluppsteypa, Rafael Toral, Marcus Schmickler,
rhBand, Pelt, Dave Grubbs, Vote Robot, Idyll Swords,
TV Pow , Zuerichten, Keenan Lawler, and Miss
Murgatroid.

We are offering all-inclusive advance weekend passes
for all of the Cat's Cradle performances, film and
video screenings, and installations for $30. These
will be available within the next couple of weeks
through the transmissions website. There will be 500
passes sold for this year's festival. Passes still
available the week of the festival will cost $35.

Related information and the festival archive will be
maintained at transmit.org . A transmissions mailing-
list is available for subscription on-site, which will
announce periodic notices of festival developments.

All of the festival performance slots _are_ booked;
however, anyone interested in submitting film or video
work for consideration [ by April 15th] can direct
their queries or submissions to :
