These several co-sponsors are fairly senior democrats, but I don't know how
far this will go. The second link is to "digital angel" -- the people who
built the rfid chips that are in my feline and canine friends. The cattle
(for now) can be tracked from up to 100 ft away , presently, by the
farmer/rancher or by your friendly gov't snoop

Congress > Legislation

H.R. 814:

111st CongressThis is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of
Representatives ("H.R."). A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate
and then be signed by the President before it becomes law.

Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a
session of Congress. This bill was created in the 111st Congress, in
2009-2010.

The titles of bills are written by the bill's sponsor and are a part of the
legislation itself. GovTrack does not editorialize bill summaries.

Digital Angel launches cattle tracking system

Digital Angel, a provider of a range of animal identification and emergency
identification solutions, has introduced a new cattle tracking system. The
r.Tag system, marketed by Digital Angel’s Destron Fearing division, offers a
flexible format for the automatic collection of livestock identification and
data in correlation with specific locations.

The new system consists of r.Tag transponders, which can be read at distances
of up to 100 feet, along with r.Tag Position Indicators that enable the
system to establish a specific tagged animal’s location within a few feet.
The system is wireless, and its scanners are equipped with solar-powered
battery back-ups, so there is no need for cables. Integrated anti-collision
software enables cattle moving in herds to be identified individually.
Eighteen months of field-testing offered proof the system can function in a
variety of harsh climates, including the -20 degree Fahrenheit temperatures
of a Minnesota winter.

The system was developed by Geissler Technologies, which Digital Angel
acquired in January of 2008.

The r.Tag system will be showcased at the 2009 Annual Cattle Industry
Convention and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) trade show,
scheduled for January 28-31 in Phoenix, AZ.
