My cousin used a twelve volt dc low output pump to move water from a spring up to an old stainless milk tank up on the hill behind the house, which then gave him gravity feed to the house at near normal house pressure. A nice feature was that his solar system charged a twelve volt batter, which then operated the pump, so the pump was working even at night.
