No Matter Who Wins, Palin Will Be a Force in GOP
By GERALD F. SEIB
"»The luster and popularity of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have faded, but this
much remains certain: Regardless of the outcome of the election in 11 days,
she will be around for a while as a force in Republican politics."
........................
But she remains intensely popular with the Republican base -- more so than
her boss, Sen. McCain, in fact -- and probably has given a boost to other
Republicans down the ticket by generating excitement, turnout and money. She
has star power.
..........And the bottom line is this: On Nov. 5, she will be either vice
president-elect or the best-known young figure in a Republican party that
will be angry, disenchanted with its existing leadership and probably ready
to rebuild around a conservative core that loves her. Either way, she is and
figures to remain the biggest fund-raiser in her party, which is a sure way
to win friends and allies..............
In short, the excellent adventure of Sarah Palin will continue.
.........But win or lose, she's now her party's best fund-raiser, and the new
poll shows that 98% of Americans now know enough about her to have an
opinion. Some politicians work for decades to get that kind of name
recognition. Sarah Palin got it in seven weeks, which makes her one of the
more amazing political stories of our times. "
