For weeks now I've been seeing movement in the pond created by the beaver plugging of the culvert. By the time I get the binoculars it has stopped. If I keep the binoculars on the front porch, then, of course, a new bird appears in the back yard and I miss seeing it well because the binocs are out front.

So this morning, as the light rain follows the heavy rain, I see more water movement at the pond. This time I get the binocs and focussed in time to see what it is--four beautiful otters. Look young by the size of them.

Otters are hell on fish and when I get to the point of raising fish for food they will provide yet one more challenge with trying to balance a civilized life in a wild place.
