Diminishing oil supplies and increasing prices are and will increasingly be challenging. Those conditions can be adjusted to. Diminishing water supplies are far more critical. An article in The Economist titled Don't make the desert bloom illustrates the issue. As with oil, certain adjustments, including rising prices, can have a beneficial effect. But, unlike oil, there is no substitute for water.
Don't build a homestead without it in abundance.
