About 3 weeks ago, it was reported that scientists had discovered a
previously
unknown, active volcano on the arctic peninsula, under the ice. They said
that
they detected molten, moving rock under the ice. The scientists said this
was creating a layer of melted water runoff. The scientist did not speculate
on
the effect of this as concerns the melting on the shelf, but
the author of the article did not think the two were related. I have to
wonder though if this is contributing to the 1 degree temp increase in the
water
in that region.

There is no doubt that global warming is
real. According to an article in the April 2008
issue of Science, "surface temperatures have
increased 4.5ºF (2.5ºC) in the last 50 years on
the Antarctic Peninsula, the mountainous arm that
trails toward the southern tip of South America."
The question is not is it real; rather, the question is what is causing it.
