My basset hound has just been treated for what I think to be canine flu.
He's adopted so we think his age is: 8 yrs/+. He just had surgery (one month
ago) for removal of mast cell tumor and all test indicate that the cancer has
not yet spread.

I have two other dogs that he stays with in an 1/2 acre lot during the day
and the two bassets sleep in at night. The infected dog is the only one that
will eat fecal matter. He began showing symptoms last Tues. evening (this is
Sat.) He was and is very lethargic, vomiting, diarrhea. A visit to the vet
on Wed. showed dehydration, a very low grade fever. He was administered
sub-cutaneous IV to re-hydrate and given injection of (pepsid) and something
for diarrhea. Another visit on Th. He was given injection of (pepsid) and
injection for diarrhea. Also was given Metronidazole 250mg. 2x day for 5
day. I've contined to give him OTC pepsid (3 a day). He's been on a diet of
boiled chicken until today. I've added Science senior wet (turkey) to the
chicken. His stool is a little more firm and seems to be a little more
active. His gums are pale but not tacky.

I really think he's gotten the canine virus since he was boarded in a kennel
a month ago and has the habit of eating feces. Our local paper had an
article today about the virus.

Just thought I'd pass the info. along. We live in Upper East TN. area.

Thank you,
Donna Lucash
