Central Illinois is in a drought. We had some rain last week, but the
showers were scattered, and I got only a half inch. Even the weeds have gone
back to wilting.

And, now, for the past 10 days or so the heat has been ratcheting up. It was
supposed to be 105 today, and it may be though if you sit outside under a
tree and don't move much, it's not too bad as there's a nice breeze.

Last fall just after I acquired my 2 donkeys, Peter and Paul, my farrier of
many years got a wild hair and decided to move to Colorado. Fortunately, he
comes back to see his daughter (and trim her horse's feet) and does some
trimming when he's here.

He called yesterday, and arranged to be here at noon. Fortunately, he got
mixed up and showed up at 8 instead. The boys were good, and it didn't seem
deadly hot, but by the time he was finished we were both soaking wet. I
don't even like to think about what it would have been like if he'd come at
noon.

This being Illinois, I'm not surprised to hear that the *high* for next
Wednesday is in the 70s, though that just may be a rumor put out by the
weather service to help people hold on for a few more days.

Marie
