A froe is a tool, the one we have is metal.
It is somewhat like a thick hoe blade but curved slightly upward.It is used
to shave or rive off shingles from a larger piece of wood. The dictionary
says it can also be used to make barrel staves.
You put a short handle on it and can work it from a sitting position.
Someone else will have to answer about the glut -- which is not in the
dictionary other than as overfilled.
