Progress may take a step backwards
In an article on genetically modified insects, The Christian Science Monitor<http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0429/p13s02-sten.html> suggests that insecticide-resistant honeybees might be created "to protect investment in honeymaking".
Am I alone in thinking that this idea is plain stupid?
It is more than just stupid but it is driven by the same forces than brought you Roundup ready Soy Beans. There are many restrictions on insecticide applications when honeybees are around. It can only be applied in windless conditions, at certain times, and all local beekeepers must be notified. IF there was even a smallest excuse that the bees would be resistant then they could apply poisons whenever they felt like it. Just as stupid and as bad an idea as most if not all GMOs.
