I don't suppose that I'm as determinedly opposed to all socialism as some other folks are; I just see socialized medicine as an opportunity for lawyers to have a field day at our expense. But I don't think the Electorate is nearly this wise, having taken to socialism, in general, like fish in water.
So my advice to our Liberal friends is to figure out that Kerry did not lose because he's a socialist. Bush is dabbling in it too, insofar as it might help to buy a few votes.
Do you realize that you can draw a Great Circle line from my house to James's and beyond, without ever passing through a county Kerry?
Most of the non-elderly people in my part of fly-over country don't give a rat's ass about religion either, so you can't blame that, although it would be far better for the Party if one didn't have to be an abortionist to vote Democrat.
Out here gun control means using two hands. This is why even the most apolitical people go out of their way to belittle Kerry and the Dems. And yet I've heard so many starry-eyed loons not getting it, over the past few days on TV. I really laughed loudest when I heard Ron Reagan saying the Kerry should not have put on the camouflage, but stood by his principles.
Think about it. In the olden days, the three nutworks were the only source of information for the average Joe. A candidate could promise gun control to one group of people, unlimited abortion to another, animal rights to yet another, and so forth, and thanks to the complicity of the media, never have his sophistry revealed. And on Election Day he could count having all these diverse groups vote for him. But nowadays, within hours of the camouflage photo event, Rush will be discussing his gun control voting record, and telling everyone the webpage where they can find it for themselves. The result is an intersection, rather than a union, of these different sets of voters. In other words, I only vote for Kerry if I'm for gun control AND abortion AND animal rights. It's not hard to see how this leads to fewer voters.

Good. Make no mistake that if there had been no other candidates on the ballot but Bush and Kerry, I'd have voted for Bush. Kerry is a dismal socialist (while Bush is nothing of the sort, he's a fascist, but the result is the same).
