We have all read that soaking a bare root rose in water for more than a few hours will kill it. In the past I have extended that time to 5- days with no dire results. Well this time I've gone over the bend. I have three plants that have been sitting in pails of water for more than a month and they are not only alive, one is in bloom and another has buds. ( They arrived shortly before I left on vacation - the Chelsea Flower Show and I had no time to plant them.) Two are grafted and have developed no white feeder roots that I can see. But the shrub rose is covered with them. I figure they are water roots and will not survive if planted directly into soil. My question, does anyone have any thoughts as to how I might be able to save this rose other than taking cuttings?
I am quite taken with the color.
