Hi Nan -
I back up to HD #1, which is then backed up off site to a remote backup
system maintained by a third party. So everything goes on both. .I also back
up everything to two sets of cd/dvd's.
Hard drives will fail. Think of them as comparable to automobiles, filled
with moving parts. They absolutely will fail, so consider that. Having two
is a good idea, so when one goes, you create a new (state of the art) backup
from the survivor. To answer your question then, I'd say you should back up
to both - redundancy is the key.
Of course, cd's and dvd's also have a purported shelf life.
Bottom line? You can't win!!!!
