It's possible the assignment was made incorrectly and that the teacher should have said blue flax, even if he or she said blue phlox. Since one is a plant of high utility and the other is not (at least as far as I know), I suspect the teacher made a mistake.

Jo Ellen,

HI, I am not sure which one as they only referred to it as blue phlox. Maybe the little boy could report on both. Do you know anything about either one?

Hi, Sheri -- are you asking about the native wild blue phlox or woodland phlox?

Can anyone help me out here?

My son, Jake, is a 3rd grader at Webster Elementary in Livonia, Michigan.  He needs to write a "fact page" on blue phlox and we have been unable to find if this flower has an interesting history or if it has alternative uses (i.e., medicinal, edible, etc).  His paper is due on 2/22, so any info you could forward would be helpful.

Thanks,

Sheri
