I'm pretty sure it's a privet, possibly Ligustrum obtusifolium (or maybe
Ligustrum japonicum or Ligustrum sinense, although the berries of those two
are pure black). All are commonly spread by birds. Dirr has good descriptions
of all the species in his Manual of Woody Landscape Plants.
