What I have come to believe is that:
Jesus was the hero of the author of The Gospel of Mark. Jesus was the author's role model. The author wished to emulate Jesus. The author thought that Jesus had an excellent way of teaching and Mark wanted to use Jesus' methods of teaching , to the extent that he could.

Mark believed that Jesus use parables to teach the public. Mark 4:33-34 "...he (Jesus) did not speak to them without parable".

Therefore, I believe that as the author wanted to teach in the manner of his role model, Mark's gospel is primarily made up of parables.
