Title: Re: gmark digest: December 18, 2000
I too wondered if the correlation was made by me, or if I was observing
theology of Mark there in the narrative.
What do you think?
My first impulse is to think that Mark didn/t make this connection. But...
- It seems to necessary to ask the basic question as to when the gospel was written. Did Mark know of the destruction of the temple or not? Some say that he did not because if he had, he would of make a more explicit reference to it. But, on the other hand, it seems that saying that no stone will be left on another could reflect some knowledge of the temple's demise. On the other other hand - prophecies regarding the destruction of the temple were not unheard of in the first century before 70CE. It does seems that something as devastating as the temple's removal would of obtained clearer mention in this gospel had he known it. Or maybe not. In short, I haven't reached a very solid opinion yet...
Peace
