Title: Re: gmark digest: December 14, 2000
The Parallel is interesting,
except in Ezekiel. there is no real mention of the Glory going to the
gentiles - and the correlation (re: the Gentiles) in the Markan
passage seems to me a bit stretched. The question I have, is whether
this parallel is a coincidence, or whether "Mark" intended
it. This connection I think might be more plain in the 4th gospel
where the idea of glory figures more dominantly.
Your suggestion did make me wonder about the power of the human mind to see connecting patterns between somewhat similar items being placed together. A arguably "canonical" approach, but with dangers of becoming overly esoteric. Unless of course it was intentionally placed there by the author...

Peace...
Ezekiel 10.18; 11.23
The "glory of the Lord" left the Temple prior to its destruction
The "glory of the Lord" rested on the Mount of Olives before going to the
land of the Gentiles
Mark 13.1-3
Jesus leaves the temple prior to its destruction
Jesus rests on the Mount of Olives
All of this occurs before the Gospel is preached to the Gentile nations
Any conclusions?
