One thing you can do to try if is a problem with connection settings is to
try different freetds libraries. We provide dblib (that you are using),
ODBC and ctlib. The key is mainly ODBC or not ODBC so you should try same
query with ODBC. So run the query with tsql on one test and the other with
bsqlodbc, isql or any other ODBC tool using freetds driver (many
distribution package ODBC driver in a different package).
All Microsoft tools use ODBC settings for connection (beside dblib which
Microsoft declared obsolete)
