I have an existing copy of freetds that I installed on Ubuntu Server
without difficulty using the instructions here:
http://www.pauldeden.com/2008/12/how-to-setup-pyodbc-to-connect-to-mssql.html.
However, there is a bug fix in one of the most recent nightly builds
that I need. The problem is that I can't seem to get the current
version installed so that my system will use it.
I tried:
apt-get install freetds-dev
but received the following message:
freetds-dev is already the newest version.
I then went to
ftp://ibiblio.unc.edu/pub/Linux/ALPHA/freetds/current/freetds-current.tgz
and downloaded the nightly build. I followed the instructions from
here: http://it.toolbox.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_Debian_FreeTDS_ODBC,
nearly to the letter. Everything seemed to go smoothly. However, it
didn't seem to use the new version. So I then tried uninstalling the
original installation using apt-get:
sudo apt-get --purge remove freetds-dev
This seemed to have little effect (the file /etc/freetds/freetds.conf
file still exists, for example), except that running it a second time
produced this message:
Package freetds-dev is not installed, so not removed
I have tried so many different things I've lost track of where I am.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
