Much as I like getting patches, I have my own doubts about the value of
this idea. It seems to me it's easier and more flexible to do something
like this:

while read L
do
if [ "$L" = 'go' ]
then
echo take your time >&2
sleep 5
fi
echo $L
done < input.sql \
| bsqldb -S ....

We could add a "delayed_cat"[1] script or something to the samples that
does that, so you could do:

delayed_cat -w 5 input.sql | bsqldb -S ....

That would be more of a unix tools approach. It would work with any SQL
utility, and it could do everything (and more) that a go-slow mode in
bsqldb could do.

Medi, you're the one who came up with this. What do you say?
