On reflection, I can't fault the compiler guys; it's only a warning, and
you get to turn it on or off as you see fit. I do wish I could tweak this
behavior, because -Wparentheses is otherwise helpful.
I'd like to suggest that we ignore the compiler's suggestion, rather than
adding unnecessary parentheses just for the sake of not seeing the
warning.
