You need unixodbc or iodbc installed. I used iodbc can't remember why but
its simple to install.

For instance

tar -xvf libiodbc-3.52.4.tar
cd libiodbc-3.52.4
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install

cd ..
tar -zxvf freetds-stable.tgz
cd freetds-0.64
./configure --with-iodbc --prefix=/usr
make
make install

Similar for unixodbc
