You need to set your client character set to something that includes the
Euro symbol. By default, FreeTDS uses ISO 8859-1, which doesn't have
that symbol. Try ISO 8859-15 or UTF-8.

The client has to use that character set, too, of course. You're using
PHP, so you'll probably want to include the encoding information in the
HTML META tag.

When you write to the database, FreeTDS should never substitute question
marks for data; you should get an error instead. If your data are being
loaded some other way, the easiest way to verify it's right is to check
with a native tool.
