I'd like to see that reworded somehow. This isn't (to my understanding) a
deficiency or limitation in FreeTDS that will some day be fixed, it's just
the way the protocol works. "Work arounds" implies to me that these are
temporary band-aids until something better comes along. In reality, the
examples you give are just the right way to do this sort of thing in this
programming environment.
It's kind of like if someone asked, "How do I get a goose to lay golden
eggs, so I can get rich?" Instead of answering, "Well, the workaround for
this limitation in geese is to get a job and work hard for your money," I
would instead say "What you're trying to do is silly. Get a job instead."

I think some language might be useful here, instead of just diving in to the
examples. Perhaps part of Bill's language might be better applied here.
