This appears to be from this code in DBD::Sybase:

for(i = 0; i < numCols; ++i) {
if((retcode = ct_describe(imp_sth->cmd, (i + 1),
&imp_sth->datafmt[i])) != CS_SUCCEED)
{
warn("ct_describe() failed");
cleanUp(imp_sth);
goto GoodBye;
}

What is weird is that the CS_COMMAND variable appears to be NULL.

Anyway - do you think you could try running this with DBI->trace(3)?
This will show us what the sequence of calls is that gets to that point.
