It is better to do what the vendors do. Here's Sybase's isql:
1> select @@version
2> , convert(bit, -1), convert(bit, 0), convert(bit, 1), convert(bit,2)

Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.9.2.3 1 0 1 1
(1 row affected)
It looks to me like any non-zero integer becomes 1.
