Answering my own question,
using the latest snapshot seemed to cure the segmentation
faults under RH 7.2.
However, the web page has (in my mind) an incorrect link to
the latest snapshot (or the copy process hasn't worked
correctly). You can see this by comparing the two archives:
## FreeTDS Users Guide: A Guide to Installing, Configuring
and Running FreeTDS
## Build FreeTDS, 'ibiblio.org' link
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/freetds/freetds-current.tgz
and the non-working
