hmm
reverse DNS is set for the IP, and it matches the forward
still fails with same "255.255.255.255 port 0" error in log
changed the interfaces file to say
bgmsmssql1
query tcp tds5.0 bgmsmssql1.my.domain.com 1433
master tcp tds5.0 bgmsmssql1.my.domain.com 1433

If you do not have a reverse DNS, the code in freetds will break
(gethostbyaddr() rely on reverse DNS).
Try to add this address with a machine name in your /etc/hosts (or
NIS, NetInfo etc...)
and replace 10.0.0.1 by the name in /etc/hosts in your interface.
/etc/host:
10.0.0.1 mymssqlserver
interface file:
bgmsmssql1
query tcp tds5.0 mymssqlserver 1433
master tcp tds5.0 mymssqlserver 1433
Hope that helps.
Fabien.
P.S. I will try to issue a patch for this in the next week.
