Hi,
I believe that jConnect is free for development but not deployment (cost
about $1500 per server last time I checked). My knowledge is a little
dated, so things may have changed since then. Besides, having the code
has its own merits, not being forced into buying support contracts if you
have the inhouse expertise for instance.
