Oh I get that too, I'm going to MSSQL 7.0,
same thing the work around is, to put a select
in the sql, any old one will do, just so it returns
a data set, one row or no rows are fine.
i.e..

$sql = "insert or such like\n";
$sql .= "silly select I know will be quick\n";

that should work fine, it does for me.
