Good lord there's been a lot of good electronic music shows lately, but
it's not over yet. Dyssembler and WXYC present next SUNDAY 9/21/03...
Matthew Dear
[Plus8, Ghostly International, Perlon: Detroit]

Matthew Dear conducts an overloaded jalopy full of chains and scrap
metal that seems to hit every other pothole in the road. From his base
junkyard deep within Detroit, Dear assembles pragmatic dancefloor
burners out of broken bicycle gears and spent oil drums--all without a
single 808 handclap! Dear has released three rollicking housey-techno
records on the legendary Plus8 label (founded by Ritchie Hawtin and
John Acquaviva in 1990) in the space of a year, and nabbed a spot on
the roster of Berlin's premier minimal/quirk house imprint Perlon. All
this in addition to his home on Ann Arbor's Ghostly International, a
label which continues to push the experimental realms of techno, house
and hip hop in the direction of the dancefloor.
But who cares about wanky techno labels? Come hear him perform LIVE for
next to nothing in the intimate, friendly setting of the Nightlight.
With the quasi-local talents of Charlotte's finest techno warlords:
Grindle
[earconscious: charlotte]
The legend of Grindle is a tale of a man who somehow manages to dj fru-
fru nightclubs in a city full of bankers and still play awesome krauty
techno and electro. How does he pull it off? Find out this special
Sunday session...
James Thomason - Live PA
[blah modern: charlotte]
James rocked shit in the housiest way last time he came to town,
dropping elevator house remixes and getting people so worked up they
started dancing on whatever platforms they could surmount. Now he's
playing live--> house music in the funky minimalist vein of Dan Bell,
Mike Ink, Studio 1, etc.
