Hi Everybody - I think I'm the latest compost tea junkie. I got hooked on C
T's after listening to Elaine about 3 years ago.
I'm a daylily specialist in Maleny, Queensland and in Nov. a new leaf
disease in daylilies, a rust called puccinia hemerocallidae, infected 6
acres of plants before it was detected. I try to grow everything
organically and I'm against using chemical fertilisers, fungicides,
insecticides etc so I'm hoping C T's might give me some control.
How hot can you let the brew rise to? I'm never sure whether it is the pump,
the multiplication of the micro-organisms, or both, which causes the
temperatures to rise. I think its OK for a pile of compost to rise to 50
Celsius before the temps. start killing the microbes but what about in a
tea? is 36 C OK?
And as for that froth! I made a 100 gallon brew in a 200 gallon tank
recently and the froth was pouring over the top like a badly poured beer.
Too bacterial is what Elaine's Lab reported. I've been advised to cut down
the molasses from 4 litres to 2.
I'll tell you about my home-made brewer and the recipe another day .
Scott Alexander.
