Hi: I have experienced multiple sites/mail lists that musicians and artists go to to discuss their music and marketing and ideas. So far, there's no general list that has the "feel" and "comfort" for newbies to the recording movement, i.e., do-it-yourself movement.

For example, a message that says, "I just made a recording, and need feedback on it." Or, "Where's a site I can put my samples?" Or, "I'm in need of a music appreciation online course, to formalize my music training."

Open Studios has a list called, community_studios AT lists.ibiblio.org. This will eventually be populated by those who are using the free recording services of their local facilities, and will be asking such questions. If the lau list is already fielding such topics, then that gives everyone a good resource to act as the definitive list to check. So, my preference is to let this list [ lau ] be a broader-based resource for the world community. Go for it, Darren! We support you.
Thanks,

Really, this was a spur-of-the-moment idea I has while driving home from
trying out drum sets. I was lamenting over not really having a place to go
to ask questions about more general music production problems, so I
thought I would make one.

I don't know, would this forum be a place for more general music
production and theory questions without it falling off-topic? On one hand,
I think the formula we have here now is good, but on the other, do we
really want yet another mailing list?

To that end, I was thinking that maybe a wiki and/or a message board would
actually be a better way to go for music production and theory-related
questions. Any thoughts or opinions here?

Greetings:

I've always believed that LAU would be a space for asking & answering
such questions. The mail-list title refers simply to Linux audio users,
not even necessarily Linux audio software users. There's no particular
topic restriction that I know of, though of course the most typical
perception is that we're about software. The topics you suggest should
be welcome here, IMO.

But if you feel like starting a new list, who's to say you can't ? ;-)
