Dear Emily,

Did you know Forecast gives grants to Minnesota artists for professional development? For both mid-career and emerging public artists we offer funding to assist with the development of a project idea or to participate in activities that will help them further their careers. One 2014 recipient of the McKnight Professional Development Grant for mid-career artists was Andrea Steudel. Filmmaker Nick Clausen, of IFP MN, captured her story as she researched and mapped the alleyways of Lowertown in St. Paul, MN. Watch the video here, and see below for this year's grant deadlines.

Opportunities + Events

Minnesota

- FLOW Northside in Minneapolis has a request for proposals for public art for their 10th annual arts crawl. Deadline is May 29.

- Minnesota State Arts Board's FY2016 Artist Initiative Grants have an application deadline of June 12 at 4:30pm CDT for literary arts and performing arts, and August 7 at 4:30pm CDT for visual arts.

National


- Jasper Arts is accepting applications from artists interested in creating a commissioned public exterior art mural in the city of Jasper, Indiana. Deadline is May 29 at 5pm ET.

- CODAworx is accepting entries for the 2015 CODAawards, which celebrate design projects that demonstrate successful integrations of commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces. Apply by May 31st.

- Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in Palm Beach County, Florida has a request for qualifications for integrated public art. Deadline is June 15 at 4pm ET.

- Hennepin County Library - Brooklyn Park is now accepting applications for their call to artists. An informational meeting will be held in Meeting Room C at the Brookdale Library on May 27, 6-8pm - 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Brooklyn Center, MN. Deadline for submissions is July 7 at 4pm CT.


- The U.S. Department of Arts and Culture is seeking submissions for their HI-LI Project Database (High-Impact Low-Infrastructure). They're also looking for people around the country to join their Action Squad.

International

- Lago das Artes is now accepting submissions for their International Art Residency Programme, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the first half of 2016 (Jan-Jun). Residencies can last between one and three months. Deadline is June 10.

- The City of Sydney is seeking bold concepts for public art at Green Square, and invites artists or artist lead multi-disciplinary teams to submit concept proposals for the Connecting Project. Deadline is July 28, at 11AM AEST (local time in Sydney).

The Antarctic Art Contest is seeking entries of work that explores and interprets Antarctic research and science. The free contest will accept entries until July 31.
