Dear CHPAC, Scott asked that I forward the update below to you. Best, Steve From: Scott Radway
[mailto:scott AT radwaydesign.com] Steve, I am going to call tomorrow about the jury/selection process. If
we can do something the week of Feb 21 that would seem like a reasonable
schedule to attempt. In the meantime you could send the update below to all commissioners
and save us some discussion time. Scott Radway, AICP Radway

Update on Exhibitions and Sculpture Vision. For Sculpture Visions, our promotional brochures and
poster are ready. However, we just heard that Mike Roig has an
opportunity to sell his piece located at the Community Center, so that piece
will likely go and be replaced by another Roig. This will render the
promo materials inaccurate, so Jeff is negotiating with Roig to get some money
to cover the cost or reprinting updated brochures ($300). I’ll bring
copies of our current brochure to the meeting. Also, Saliter’s Particle /
Wave piece currently at the Community Center can’t be moved to the For the Juried Exhibitions Series, the deadline
for applications is Monday, February 14. We’ve received about 30
applications so far and I expect we’ll receive at least 30 more by the
deadline. We’ve told the applicants we’ll notify them of the results by
March 14. We would like to have selection done by the end of February to
have time to arrange shows with selected artists prior to notifying those
rejected. We need to
put together a jury and comply with our new selection procedures. At Town Hall for February we are showing photos from the 2010 Facing Our
Neighbors project for Black History Month, we’re continuing to display Yoko
Sekino Bove’s ceramics
in the cases, and we’re also showing an Alternative Transportation photo
exhibit organized by Go Chapel Hill (photos taken by schoolchildren of riding
busses, bikes & walking to school). Last scheduled show at TH is
March – April. Starting May we will hopefully show artists from the
recent selection. For the Library, our last scheduled show there ended
December, but I spoke with the Library Director and as the Library is still
open pending the Council decision, I worked it out with Timothy
Orikri who’s show at Town Hal just finished to exhibit his work at the
library for a few months until that decision is reached. |
