Dear CHPAC,

Below are three links to CHPAC-related items that recently appeared in the local media.  Below those is a notice of a luncheon tomorrow with Jeffrey York at P.T.’s Grille which is across Henderson Street from the Pencil mural.

- Percent for Art program pays off for Chapel Hill CHAPEL HILL - A stone wall embedded with tools and a winding marble bench created for Chapel Hill's Town Operations Center were among 45 projects recognized as outstanding public art during a national conference last month in Philadelphia.

"Chapel Hill is thrilled to receive national attention for these projects," town public arts administrator Jeffrey York said in a news release. "We encourage everyone to visit the Town Operation Center, take a leisurely walk along the new sustainability trail, and enjoy these fine artworks."

- Franklin Street pencil gets touch-up

CHAPEL HILL -- It's 92 degrees outside, and Michael Brown reeks of bleach and sweat.

For the last five hours, he's been scrubbing the grime off his 17-year-old mural, the 140-foot pencil on Henderson Street.

- Muralist restoring his art

CHAPEL HILL -- Local artist Michael Brown began creating murals in Chapel Hill almost 20 years ago. Many of those paintings have become as much a part of the town's history and character as the buildings and walls they adorn.
