Hi Jane

I leave OA stuff to other members of the community. The circus is too large  to manage for one volunteer otherwise.

I'll ask if the University of Cape Town team has anything organized and revert back

Hi all,

So Open Access Week (http://www.openaccessweek.org/) is the week of 20 Oct, the same week as the UNESCO higher ed SOO Africa launch that Alex is planning in Nairobi. I wonder if this is a good opportunity to highlight both OA and SOO? I've already let EFF folks who are organizing advocacy around that week that there will be an SOO Africa event. We could further promotion by tying OA into our communications for that week. What do you all think?

And if folks want to do anything else around OA in addition in their regions, EFF is encouraging blog posts and more, including highlighting this petition and Diego's case: https://act.eff.org/action/let-s-stand-together-to-promote-open-access-worldwide.

The theme for this year's OA week is student activism, which fits the SOO bill pretty nicely. So for those of you who have ties to student communities who care about access to research, this week would be the week to get them to share their stories. :)

Cheers,
Jane
