Greg,
This is a great list of resources. I've added to http://pad.p2pu.org/p/school-of-open-resources - a list of resources that School of Open course creators can build on to develop courses as part of the School: http://schoolofopen.org/.
Perhaps other resources listed at the pad may be of use to this group as well.
If anyone would like to get involved in the School of Open, don't hesitate to shoot me a note.
Best,
Jane
Hi All
As a starting point, let me share some of the great resources we use and some of the (hopefully) great resources we’ve developed to help African educators start navigating around the concept of OER.
Creative Commons Video Introduction
· We usually introduce people to CC with this great video available from the CC website: http://creativecommons.org/videos/creative-commons-kiwi its a great introduction to CC licenses – maybe one day we can have an “African” version rather than relying on a “Kiwi” one ;)
Some really useful OER publications from UNESCO / Commonwealth of Learning that you can download and share:
· A Basic Guide to Open Educational Resources (OER) (July 2011)
· Guidelines for Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education (November 2011)
· Survey on Governments’ Open Educational Resources (OER) Policies (June 2012)
· Exploring the Business Case for Open Educational Resources (September 2012)
OER Africa was a project specifically setup to advocate OER in Africa. The website has a lot of great information. There are sections on:
· Understanding OER – Introducing OER, FAQs and links to some of the UNSECO/COL publications
· Finding OER – tools for finding OER as well as links to the OERs collected by OER Africa (in the areas of Health, Agriculture, Teacher Education and Foundations Skills)
· OER in Action – showcasing African OER initiatives
· OER Toolkits – OER licensing and policy implications, especially useful for higher education, toolkits on Licensing and Copyright and Policy Development and Review
· And more…
There are stacks of other great resources out there, but hopefully this will be more than enough to get people started…
Regards
Greig
