- Subject: [Cc-uk] Question about attribution

Hi -
I was looking at https://www.freesound.org , in particular at how to attribute a sample : https://www.freesound.org/help/faq/#licenses-1 they give a practical reference from Children of Men, the 2006 movie from Universal Studios - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cc/Children_of_men.jpg The question is : The attribution that is present in the credits is no longer valid - it may have been valid at some point, but the address for attribution is currently not valid. So if valid attribution is required for a licence, does that mean that the licence is currently void? Wouldn't that place an onus on consumers of sounds (like Universal Studios in this case) to ensure that the connection continued to work? - perhaps by storing metadata on their own site? The use of a hosting service here provides the attribution - do we have, or do we need something like a "permalink" system that allows contributors under the CC licence to have a canonical place (which they potentially control) that ensure that the samples are continually available? I've only been looking at sound here, but I realise that this would apply equally to other formats (video, graphics etc). thanks Mike Hingley |
