Hi Jonathan,

I notice that you live in Edinburgh. There is a related workshop taking place at the University this Friday. Details below. There will be a further workshop (in September I think) where the results of the study will be presented and discussed. Ed Barker (E.Barker AT intrallect.com) will be able to give you more details.

Kind regards
Mags McGinley

"Friday 12th August, Baillie Room, Edinburgh University School of Divinity, New College, EH1 2LX

Intrallect Limited and the AHRC Research Centre for Studies in IP and IT Law are currently carrying out a study on behalf of the Common Information Environment (CIE) members into how Creative Commons (CC) Licences or their equivalent might be deployed by public sector organisations at project, service or institutional level to support sharing and reuse of digital content.

This workshop is aimed at any individuals who would use resources produced by the public sector in their day to day activities. Examples of people who may be interested include: school, college and university teachers; college and university students; academics; librarians; content aggregators; genealogists; artists; authors; journalists; social workers; sociologists; etcetera.

By the end of the workshop, we expect to be able to identify areas in which copyright impedes public sector resource use and to determine if material published under Creative Commons licences would allow for more effective reuse.

If you would like to attend this workshop or require further information please contact:

There?s an interesting report on how Creative Commons licences are viewed,
and could be used, by public sector (and similar) organisations in the
United Kingdom; http://www.intrallect.com/cie-study/index.htm .
