Ahoy,
I asked Artquest (thanks Rob), and they said the following:
---
The questioner rightly asks about the position of children giving
informed consent in the situation described.
Under English law, a child is a person under 18 years of age
(generally, 16 in Scotland)
It is generally the case under UK law that children, for most
purposes, cannot give their informed consent. Legislation often
specifies the purpose and the age that their consent may be given; for
example, a child under 16 years cannot give their informed consent to
sexual intercourse.
UK copyright legislation does not deal specifically with children as
authors, owners or licencees, of copyright works. Bu it is generally
accepted that a child's parent or guardian has to give their
consent/licence for the use of copyright work authored or owned by
their child.
Similarly, under English contract law it is generally the case that a
child (under 18 years) cannot enter into a legally binding and
enforceable contract; unless their parent or guardian gives their
express written consent.
Accordingly, in the circumstances described by the questioner, it
would be both sensible and right to achieve the written consent of
child's parent or guardian for the purposes described.

I hope that's useful for anyone else looking to work with children on CC.
