Moreover this is the entire point of the iCommons project. If national differences will render the project untenable we should just use the original CC-2.0 as has happened with the GPL.

Yes. Novel variations like the variable duration license term, and draconian additions like the auditing clause don't fit into this category, though. IMHO, IANAL, etc.
